Bifen I/T Insecticide/Termiticide

Bifen I/T is a professional liquid suspension concentrate containing 7.9% bifenthrin for prevention and control of termites and broad-spectrum insect control in and around structures, on lawns and ornamentals, and in livestock and poultry housing structures. It is labeled for residential, institutional, public, commercial and industrial settings, along with parks, recreational areas and athletic fields.

Generic for Talstar P Professional Insecticide, Bifen I/T provides an IRAC Group 3A pyrethroid option with the same 7.9% bifenthrin concentration and broad professional-use positioning. Its concentrated formulation supports indoor crack-and-crevice and spot treatments, outdoor perimeter applications, turf and ornamental programs, animal-facility pest management and licensed termite work; always follow the Bifen I/T label because generic and name-brand labels may differ.

Features & Benefits

Contains 7.9% bifenthrin and 2/3 pound of active ingredient per gallon, providing a concentrated professional-use formulation

Generic for Talstar P Professional Insecticide, providing a familiar 7.9% bifenthrin alternative without implying that the two labels are identical

Broad labeled use across structural pest control, outdoor perimeters, lawns, ornamental landscapes, mosquito programs and livestock or poultry housing structures

Controls termites, carpenter ants, fire ants, cockroaches, chinch bugs, mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, scorpions, spiders, mites and many other listed pests

Supports general surface applications where permitted, plus spot, crack-and-crevice, pinstream, low-pressure, deep-harborage, perimeter, turf and foliar treatments

Label-specific residual performance includes up to one month for house flies and up to three months for indoor flea treatments, depending on rate and treated surface

Livestock and poultry housing directions cover biting flies, litter beetles, hide beetles, fleas, bed bugs, mites and ticks under label-specified occupancy restrictions

May be tank mixed with insect growth regulators and other compatible pesticides when all product labels, precautions and compatibility requirements are followed

Labeled Use Sites

Label-supported sites include homes and apartment buildings; commercial, industrial, institutional and public buildings; food and feed handling establishments; warehouses and storage facilities; lawns and grounds; parks, recreational areas and athletic fields; ornamental landscapes; greenhouses and interiorscapes containing plants grown for aesthetic or climatic purposes; kennels, animal-confinement facilities, livestock premises, and livestock or poultry housing structures; and labeled pre- and post-construction termite-treatment sites. Bifen I/T is not labeled for nurseries, sod farms, golf course turf, grass grown for seed, plants grown for commercial sale or plants expected to produce a harvestable commodity during the application season.

Target Pests

Termites; wood-infesting insects; ants, including carpenter ants and imported fire ants; cockroaches; bed bugs; beetles, including litter beetles, hide beetles, billbugs, wood-infesting beetles and Japanese beetle adults; chinch bugs; crickets and mole crickets; armyworms, cutworms and sod webworms; aphids, whiteflies, leafhoppers, mealybugs and scale crawlers; mites, including spider mites; fleas; ticks; mosquitoes; flies; scorpions; spiders; centipedes; millipedes; pillbugs; earwigs; wasps; hornets; and other pests listed on the product label.

Application Notes

Rates and methods vary by site and target pest. Structural and indoor pest treatments generally use 0.33 to 1.0 fluid ounce per gallon of water, producing a 0.02% to 0.06% dilution for label-directed crack-and-crevice, pinstream, spot, coarse low-pressure or brush applications. Do not broadcast-apply to interior home surfaces or use Bifen I/T as a space spray. Cover or remove exposed food, observe food-handling-facility restrictions and keep people and pets away from treated surfaces until the spray has dried.

Outdoor perimeter treatments generally deliver 0.33 to 1.0 fluid ounce per 1,000 square feet in enough water for thorough coverage. Labeled lawn rates range from 0.18 to 1.0 fluid ounce per 1,000 square feet, while ornamental rates range from 0.125 to 1.0 fluid ounce per 1,000 square feet, depending on the target. Immediately apply at least 0.25 inch of irrigation following low-volume lawn treatments for subsurface pests such as mole crickets.

Termiticide applications may only be made by individuals or firms licensed by the state and require the label-specific construction methods, concentrations and application volumes. In occupied livestock or poultry facilities, make indoor applications to cracks and crevices only. Do not apply directly to animals, feed, food, water or watering equipment, and allow general surface treatments to dry before animals are restocked. For bed bugs, use Bifen I/T as part of a broader control program rather than as sole protection.

The label recommends a labeled rate of surfactant for optimal eriophyid mite control and notes that a surfactant may enhance certain ornamental spider-mite treatments. ProSurf 90 is the approved house recommendation for those label-specified applications only.

Bifen I/T is extremely toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates and highly toxic to bees exposed to direct treatment or residues on blooming plants. Prevent runoff into drains or surface water, avoid application to blooming plants when bees are foraging and follow all site-specific environmental restrictions.
