Mites can cause stippling, bronzing, distorted growth, webbing, bud injury, or plant decline. Hot, dry conditions, dust, or repeated broad-spectrum insecticide use can favor some mite outbreaks.
Identify the Source
Examine leaf undersides and growing points with magnification and identify the mite group and life stage. Plant symptoms alone are not enough to select a miticide.
Reduce the Conditions Supporting the Pest
Reduce plant stress and dust, preserve predatory mites, and avoid unnecessary broad-spectrum treatments. Reinspect after application because eggs or concealed stages may survive.
Choose the Right Control Product
Select a miticide labeled for the crop or ornamental and target mite. Compare activity on eggs, nymphs, and adults, and rotate mode-of-action groups.
Confirm the target pest, use site, application method, and state restrictions on the current product label before use.
