Preventive Turf Fungicides

Preventive turf fungicides are applied before visible injury, when weather, soil temperature, disease history, or a forecasting model indicates that infection risk is rising. They are especially valuable for recurring diseases that are difficult to stop after roots, crowns, or large areas of foliage are damaged.

Choose the Right Product

Choose a product with a label claim for the disease, turf species, and use site. Compare residual interval, rainfastness, watering directions, and FRAC group. Contact products need thorough coverage; root-targeted products must reach the thatch, crown, or root zone as directed.

Build a Better Program

Begin near the university-recommended risk window, not simply on the same date every year. Use the labeled rate and interval, shorten intervals only when the label allows and disease pressure warrants it, and rotate effective FRAC groups.

What University Guidance Says

NC State's current guidance says preventive timing is usually the most effective way to improve fungicide performance. Curative treatments may require higher rates and shorter intervals and can increase cost, environmental loading, and resistance pressure.
