Atrimmec is labeled for growth regulation of landscape hedges, shrubs, trees, groundcovers, and other ornamental plants in residential and commercial landscape settings. Labeled landscape plants include arborvitae, azaleas, barberry, bottlebrush, bougainvillea, butterfly bush, cotoneaster, cypress, euonymus, ficus, forsythia, holly, honeysuckle, ivy, juniper, lantana, oleander, photinia, pittosporum, podocarpus, privet, viburnum, willow, xylosma, and numerous other listed ornamentals. Atrimmec is also labeled for greenhouse and nursery ornamental production.

Growth Regulation & Nuisance Fruit Management

Atrimmec temporarily stops shoot elongation, reduces or breaks apical dominance, and increases lateral branching. This chemical pinching effect can reduce the frequency of mechanical trimming while helping develop fuller, better-branched plants. The product may also be used according to specific label directions to reduce unwanted flowering or fruit set on ornamental olive, glossy privet, multiflora rose, Japanese holly, and other labeled plants.

Application Notes

Foliar growth-regulation rates vary by ornamental species. Typical landscape foliar rates range from approximately 1 to 3 fl oz per gallon of water, although the exact species-specific rate on the label must be followed. Spray the entire plant until foliage is thoroughly wet. For hedges, shrubs, and groundcovers, 1 gallon of finished spray generally covers approximately 400 to 600 sq ft. Small trees up to approximately 16 ft tall may require 1 to 5 gal of finished spray per tree, while larger trees may require substantially more volume for complete coverage.

For best results, treat well-rooted, healthy, actively growing plants. Do not treat wilted, dormant, drought-stressed, nutritionally deficient, or diseased plants. For a formal landscape appearance, trim plants to shape while leaving sufficient expanded foliage and apply Atrimmec within three days. For a more natural appearance, treat long shoots directly or allow approximately 2 inches of new growth after trimming before treatment.

Atrimmec contains a surfactant for standard foliar growth-regulation applications, so no additional wetting agent is needed. Plant foliage should be dry before treatment, and rainfall or overhead irrigation within 6 hours may reduce performance. Do not trim after treatment until the chemical growth-regulation response has developed because trimming can interfere with product activity.

For bark banding or soil drench applications used to reduce nuisance flower and fruit formation, the label directs 3 fl oz of Atrimmec plus 0.5 to 1.0 fl oz of a 100% organosilicone surfactant per gallon of water. These treatments must be carefully timed before flower development according to the full label. Always read and follow the complete product label.
