Bifen L/P Granular Insecticide

Bifen L/P is a professional sand-based granular insecticide containing 0.2% bifenthrin for residual control of labeled turf, lawn, and perimeter insect pests. Its IRAC Group 3A synthetic pyrethroid chemistry provides contact activity against ants, chinch bugs, fleas, ticks, mole crickets, sod webworms, armyworms, cutworms, annual bluegrass weevil adults, and other labeled pests.

Designed for outdoor professional pest-management programs, Bifen L/P can be broadcast across labeled lawns and landscaped areas or applied as a perimeter treatment around residential, institutional, public, commercial, and industrial structures. Control Solutions supports approximately 2 to 3 months of lawn residual performance from a single properly applied treatment, with rainfall or irrigation helping release the active ingredient from the granule.

Labeled Use Sites

Bifen L/P is labeled for outdoor use on lawns and landscaped areas and around residential, institutional, public, commercial, and industrial buildings; parks; recreational areas; athletic fields; flower gardens; flower beds; mulch beds; fence lines; decks and decking; and along the perimeters and foundations of houses and other structures.

Residential properties are labeled treatment sites, but the current product label restricts sale, use, and storage to commercial applicators. Bifen L/P is not labeled for golf courses, sod farms, nurseries, commercial greenhouses, grass grown for seed, or plants being grown for commercial sale or commercial seed production.

Target Pests

Bifen L/P controls armyworms, cutworms, sod webworms, annual bluegrass weevil or Hyperodes adults, adult billbugs, adult black turfgrass ataenius, leafhoppers, mealybugs, ants, centipedes, chinch bugs, flea larvae, adult fleas, adult imported fire ants, imported fire ant mounds, millipedes, adult mole crickets, mole cricket nymphs, ticks, pillbugs, sowbugs, and European crane flies.

Imported fire ant programs include broadcast and mound-treatment directions. The label also provides specific timing and activation instructions for annual bluegrass weevil, billbugs, black turfgrass ataenius, chinch bugs, fleas, mole crickets, ticks, armyworms, cutworms, and sod webworms.

Application Notes

Application rates vary by target pest. Armyworms, cutworms, and sod webworms use 50 lb per acre, approximately 1.15 lb per 1,000 sq ft. Annual bluegrass weevil adults, adult billbugs, adult black turfgrass ataenius, leafhoppers, and mealybugs use 50 to 100 lb per acre, approximately 1.15 to 2.3 lb per 1,000 sq ft. Ants, centipedes, chinch bugs, fleas, imported fire ants, millipedes, and mole crickets use 100 to 200 lb per acre, approximately 2.3 to 4.6 lb per 1,000 sq ft. Pillbugs, sowbugs, and European crane flies use 200 lb per acre, approximately 4.6 lb per 1,000 sq ft.

Residential-use sites are limited to 0.2 lb bifenthrin active ingredient per acre per application, equivalent to 100 lb product per acre or approximately 2.3 lb per 1,000 sq ft. Non-residential sites may receive up to 0.4 lb active ingredient per acre per application, equivalent to 200 lb product per acre or approximately 4.6 lb per 1,000 sq ft. Do not broadcast more than 200 lb product per acre per year. Applications above 0.34 lb bifenthrin per acre must be watered immediately after application. For perimeter treatments, treat a band 5 to 10 feet wide around and adjacent to the structure.
