Marengo Herbicide

Marengo Herbicide is a selective preemergence herbicide powered by indaziflam for long-lasting control of annual grasses, annual sedges, and broadleaf weeds in production ornamentals, hedgerows, conifers, Christmas trees, greenhouse floors, ornamental production sites, and hardscapes. Marengo provides extended residual weed control and is especially useful where repeat hand-weeding and cleanup applications increase labor costs.

As a Group 29 cellulose biosynthesis inhibitor, Marengo uses a unique mode of action to reduce weed seedling emergence before weeds become established. It controls or suppresses many difficult weeds including annual bluegrass, crabgrass, goosegrass, bittercress, eclipta, groundsel, oxalis, marestail, spurge, sedges, kyllinga, and many other labeled weeds. Marengo is labeled for use on a broad range of tolerant ornamental plants when applied according to label directions.

Features & Benefits

Long-lasting preemergence weed control helps reduce repeat applications, hand-weeding, and cleanup labor

Contains indaziflam, a Group 29 herbicide with a unique cellulose biosynthesis inhibitor mode of action

Controls annual grasses, annual sedges, and broadleaf weeds before they compete with nursery and ornamental crops

Effective on tough weeds such as annual bluegrass, crabgrass, goosegrass, bittercress, eclipta, groundsel, oxalis, marestail, spurge, and kyllinga from seed

Labeled for production ornamentals, hedgerows, conifers, Christmas trees, greenhouse floors, ornamental production sites, and hardscapes

Provides up to 8 months of weed control in production ornamental uses, depending on rate, weed pressure, and environmental conditions

Can be tank mixed with glyphosate or glufosinate where labeled when emerged weeds are present at application

Labeled for bare ground weed control beneath benches and other areas within ornamental production facilities

Labeled Use Sites

Marengo Herbicide is labeled for preemergence weed control in production nurseries, field-grown ornamentals, container-grown ornamentals, hedgerows, conifers, Christmas trees, non-bearing fruit and nut trees in nurseries, greenhouse floors, shadehouses, hoophouses, lathhouses, ornamental production facilities, areas covered by landscape fabric, and hardscapes. Non-crop and hardscape sites include paths, parking lots, curbs, sidewalks, driveways, areas around buildings, gravel areas, loading ramps, educational facilities, storage yards, vacant lots, fence rows, parks, and similar hardscape areas.

Target Weeds

Marengo controls or suppresses many broadleaf weeds, grasses, monocots, and annual sedges, including American black nightshade, American burnweed, beggarticks, bittercress, black medic, wild buckwheat, California burclover, common Canada thistle, chamberbitter, common chickweed, mouse-ear chickweed, white clover, corn speedwell, linear-leaf/purple cudweed, cupid’s shaving brush, curly dock, cat’s ear dandelion, common dandelion, dodder, dogfennel, eclipta, common evening primrose, cutleaf evening primrose, false chamomile, redstem filaree, Florida pusley, galinsoga, garden spurge, common groundsel, hairy fleabane, hairy nightshade, henbit, horseweed, marestail, kochia, common lambsquarters, lawn burweed, little mallow, London rocket, longstalked phyllanthus, black mustard, short-pod mustard, wild mustard, parthenium, prostrate pigweed, redroot pigweed, pink purslane, buckhorn plantain, paleseed plantain, wild poinsettia, prostrate knotweed, prostrate spurge, puncturevine, common purslane, common ragweed, redmaids, hemp sesbania, shepherd’s-purse, prickly sida, southern brassbuttons, annual sowthistle, spotted spurge, stinkwort, common sunflower, swinecress, tassel flower, tropic ageratum, velvetleaf, purple vetch, wild carrot, willowherb, and yellow woodsorrel.

Marengo controls sedges and annual kyllinga emerging from seed and does not control perennial sedge emerging from nutlets or perennial forms of kyllinga.

Application Notes

Apply Marengo Herbicide before weed seed germination for best results. Marengo must be activated by rainfall or irrigation prior to weed germination, and light irrigation after application helps move the herbicide into the soil. Uniform application is essential for satisfactory weed control; avoid skips, overlaps, and spray drift to sensitive plants.

Apply Marengo as a directed spray to the soil surface around established ornamentals, conifers, Christmas trees, or production sites according to the label. Avoid contact with desirable plant foliage, green bark, expanding buds, and sensitive ornamental tissue. If weeds are already present, Marengo may be tank mixed with a labeled postemergence herbicide such as glyphosate or glufosinate where allowed. Always follow the most restrictive label directions for all tank-mix partners.
