SureGuard Xtra Herbicide is a professional dual-active preemergence and early postemergence herbicide containing flumioxazin and pyroxasulfone for extended control of broadleaf weeds, grasses, and selected sedges in ornamental nurseries, landscape beds, and bare-ground areas. Its HRAC Group 14 + Group 15 chemistry combines two modes of action to broaden the weed-control spectrum and strengthen resistance-management programs.

SureGuard Xtra uses one convenient 20 fl oz per acre application rate and Nufarm supports up to eight months of residual preemergence control under labeled conditions. It also controls actively growing emerged weeds up to 2 inches tall when used with the proper adjuvant, allowing greater flexibility when application timing is less than ideal.

Labeled Use Sites

SureGuard Xtra is labeled for established container and field-grown conifers including Christmas trees; container and field-grown deciduous trees; non-bearing fruit and nut trees; established woody ornamentals in residential, commercial, recreational, and municipal landscapes; ornamental nursery production; landscape beds; and bare-ground non-crop areas in ornamental nurseries and landscapes. Bare-ground uses include areas around buildings and structures, fence rows, gravel surfaces, driveways, ground matting, and gravel pads used for container production.

Landscape applications around residential properties, commercial properties, parks, golf courses, parking areas, recreational sites, schools, and similar sites are limited to directed sprays around established woody ornamentals and must be made by commercial licensed applicators. SureGuard Xtra is not labeled for application to turfgrass.

Several targets are labeled for suppression rather than full control, and several—including many annual grasses, green kyllinga, redstem filaree, horseweed, mayweed, birdseye pearlwort, pineapple weed, broadleaf and buckhorn plantain, and yellow woodsorrel—are designated as preemergence-only targets on the label.

Application Notes

Apply SureGuard Xtra at 20 fl oz per broadcast acre. Preemergence applications should be made to clean, weed-free soil before weed emergence. Moisture is needed to activate the herbicide in the soil, and approximately 0.5 to 0.75 inch of irrigation is recommended after application where directed and practical.

For postemergence control, apply to actively growing weeds no larger than 2 inches tall. Use a nonionic surfactant containing at least 80% active ingredient or another label-approved adjuvant. A spray-grade nitrogen source may also be added where appropriate, but it does not replace the required surfactant or crop oil. SureGuard Xtra is rainfast one hour after application. Do not exceed one application or 20 fl oz per acre per year.
